Can Tho University of and Pharmacy (CTUMP) worked with the Delegations from University of Washington - Medical Education Exchange Teams (MEET) – Lifebox Organization, U.S.A (October 25- October 31, 2015)

Within the Collaborative Programs, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) worked with combined delegations including University of Washington, Medical Education Exchange Teams (MEET) and Lifebox Organization, U.S.A. The delegation carried out Pediatrics Charity Surgery Program for children at Mekong delta and Educational Exchange for CTUMP’s lecturers and students from 25 to 31 October 2015.


Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP), represented by Rector Board of CTUMP; leaders of CTUMP’s Hospital, concerning faculties and departments such as Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, Imaging Diagnosis, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Oncology, Rehabilitation, ENT; Faculties of Public Health, Dentistry, Nursing and Medical technology, Pharmacy, Basic Sciences and some departments of CTUMP’s hospital have welcomed and worked with the delegations during the week.

The combined delegations including 55 members represented by Dr. Rob Gertler and Dr. Lance Tooke (MEET delegation); Prof. Richard Veith (University of Washington) and Dr. Emma Lillie (Lifebox Organization). There are 40 volunteers in the Pediatric Surgery group who are surgeons of cleft, urology and general surgery; anesthetists, family medicine and pediatrics doctors, nurses, interpreters and IT staffs; and 15 professors, doctors and experts in educational exchange groups.

Working activities and outcomes:

1. The Charity Pediatric Surgery Program:

- The delegation did surgeries on totally 41 cases, consisting of dent maxillofacial (19 cases), urology and general surgery (22 cases).  

2. The Educational Exchange Program:

CTUMP together with MEET delegation and Lifebox Organization successfully held the workshops on Writing and publishing a scientific paper and Using oximeters in anesthesiology for CTUMP lecturers and health professionals in the practicing hospitals in Can Tho city.

Furthermore, educational exchange, clinical practice and building collaborative research proposal were done in various fields such as Dentistry, Imaging Diagnosis, Psychiatry, Oncology, Family medicine, Rehabilitation, Pediatrics, Nursing and medical language teaching.

Also, meetings were held to discuss about future collaboration with Pharmacy Faculty, Cardiology Intervention Department…
