ONLINE MEETING IMPLEMENTING RESEARCH IN COOPERATION WITH NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, USA

On November 25th, 2021, the Faculty of Public Health held an online scientific meeting with experts from Nova Southeastern University (NSU Florida), United States. This event was set to further international integration and raise the professional capability of lecturers of the faculty. The meeting offered an opportunity for research, academic and communication skill development, as well as forwarding missions in science and technology.


Nova Southeastern University was founded in 1964 as “a small university with a handful of students and some revolutionary ideas”, to quote the History page of the NSU Florida website, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Starting as an innovative educational concept of civic-minded pioneering businessmen, NSU Florida went on to add programs in a wide breadth of fields, including law, education, engineering, and computing, and even oceanography. NSU Florida is now recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university with high research activity, with various campuses inside and outside Florida.

 

Representing the Nova Southeastern University, there were Prof. PhD. Cyril BLAVO - Executive Director/President of the International Health Initiative (IHI), Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and Fundamental Sciences; PhD. Simon TRAN and PhD. Hoang NGUYEN - College of Osteopathic Medicine and MD. Kiran C. PATEL. On the side of the Faculty of Public Health of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP), there was the attendance of MSc. LE Minh Huu and PhD. NGUYEN Tan Dat – Vice Deans of the Faculty, and lecturers of the Faculty.

 

At the meeting, PhD. NGUYEN Tan Dat introduced CTUMP and the Faculty of Public Health. He was delighted to receive an offer of research cooperation from the NSU Florida on the joint implementation of the Smoking Cessation study, with the hope of reducing the incidence and complications of smoking-related cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases and cancer in a small and vulnerable population group of Vietnam. This study is a part of an initiative called STOP - Smoking Transformation and Outreach Program.

 

To conclude the event, MSc. LE Minh Huu gave his comments on the project that would be researched collaboratively in the near future. To the lecturers of the Faculty of Public Health, CTUMP, this event was a great occasion to increase research, academic and communication skills, and to expand the international integration of CTUMP through external relations.
