In recent years, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, stroke, trauma, musculoskeletal degeneration, and developmental disorders in children has led to a rapidly growing demand for rehabilitation. However, the rehabilitation service network remains insufficient to meet current needs. The number of professionally trained rehabilitation technicians and bachelor-level rehabilitation specialists remains limited, particularly in the Mekong Delta region. This shortage of human resources highlights the urgent need to train university-level professionals in the field of Rehabilitation.
Based on these practical needs, the Ministry of Education and Training has approved Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy to open the undergraduate program in Rehabilitation Engineering, program code 7720603, under Decision No. 3539/QĐ-BGDĐT dated December 24, 2025, issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. As a key medical higher education institution in the region, the establishment of this new program is expected to directly contribute to the training and provision of high-quality human resources for the healthcare system of the Mekong Delta and the country.
A Practice-Oriented and Application-Focused Training Program
An undergraduate program in Rehabilitation Technology is designed with a standard duration of four years, comprising 120 credits. The curriculum integrates basic sciences, foundational medical sciences, specialized courses, and clinical practice in hospitals. Students are provided opportunities to pursue specialized orientations in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, or geriatric rehabilitation through a system of elective courses.
A distinctive feature of this program is its multidisciplinary training orientation, emphasizing professional competence and ethical standards. Students are trained in patient communication, teamwork, and the application of information technology and foreign language skills in rehabilitation practice - competencies that are increasingly essential in the modern healthcare labor market.
Adequate Facilities and Clinical Training Environment
CTUMP has invested in modern classrooms, laboratories, and specialized functional rooms dedicated to rehabilitation training, enabling students to access well-integrated learning and clinical practice equipment. In addition, students undertake clinical practice at major regional hospitals, including Can Tho Central General Hospital, Can Tho Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as other affiliated healthcare facilities. The close integration of theoretical training and clinical practice is a key factor enabling students to accumulate professional experience throughout their study period.
Scholarships and Student Support Policies
Students are eligible for all scholarship policies offered by Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, including scholarships for academic excellence, tuition reduction and exemption policies for eligible groups, scholarships for students overcoming financial hardship, and sponsored scholarships from partner organizations. These policies aim to support students in focusing on their studies, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Admission Quota and Admission Combinations
This program is expected to enroll approximately 30-60 students per year. Admission will be based on subject combinations within the natural sciences relevant to health sciences, including A00 (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and B00 (Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology). Detailed admission information will be announced annually in the University’s official admission through and other official channels published on the website of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Career Opportunities
After graduation, students can work in rehabilitation departments of public and private hospitals, rehabilitation and orthopedic centers, early intervention facilities for children with developmental disorders, elderly care facilities, and community-based rehabilitation programs. In the context of an expanding rehabilitation system and ongoing workforce shortages, this field is considered to offer strong employment prospects.
Suitable Candidates
The Rehabilitation Technology program is suitable for individuals who are interested in healthcare, committed to supporting patients in recovering mobility, communication, and daily functional abilities, and who possess patience, responsibility, and a desire to pursue a practical profession with high social demand. The program is particularly attractive to students seeking to study and work within the Mekong Delta region.
